FIRST WEATHER-WX WALL

RECORD HIGHS POSSIBLE TODAY

It is yet another very warm day across Southwest Florida, and temps will continue to climb in the afternoon hours. Highs will push into the mid 90s in many areas today, with head indices well above 100 for several hours this afternoon.

The record high at Page Field is 96 and we may tie or break the record.

Scattered showers and storms will also develop in the afternoon hours, and some of these storms may be strong in the mid to late afternoon time frame.

We'll have a few more storms in the forecast as we head toward the weekend. By Sunday, there will be scattered afternoon storms. As we get into next week, there will be plenty of moisture available to give much higher rain chances starting on Monday and continuing through midweek. With more cloud cover and rain, highs will reach only into the upper 80s to low 90s next week.

TROPICAL UPDATE

We are still keeping an eye on a large tropical wave near the Lesser Antilles. The system is still loosely organized, but has a 50% chance for development through the next 1-2 days.

The National Hurricane Center is giving the system a 70% chance of development over the next 5 days. This system will move across the Lesser Antilles and enter the Caribbean Sea over the next few days.

At this point, it is too early to tell whether this system will have an impact on our weather here in Florida. We will keep you updated on-air and online as we continue to track this system. Elsewhere, no major activity is expected over the next 5 days. Return to index of stories...
