FIRST WEATHER-WX CTR

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Our last chilly morning for the week with a few places waking up to the upper 30s and feeling much colder when you factor in the wind chill. As we get into the afternoon, the added sunshine will help things feel a little warmer as we get into the low to mid 60s. You may still want a warm jacket if you have any plans this evening as we dip down into the low 40s.

Don't worry, much warmer weather is around the corner. Tomorrow will be chilly but not as cold as the past few mornings and we will finally see 70 degree temperatures once we get into the afternoon. With plenty of sunshine, Sunday is looking like the pick day of the weekend if you wanted to be outdoors.

Feeling a little warmer as you head off to work on Monday morning with temperatures in the low 50s. We can put away the winter gear as our afternoon temperatures will just continue to climb as we look at the mid 70s heading through the work week.

Our next chance at rain comes Tuesday with a few light showers in the evening. The models right now are a little uncertain with the timing but expect to have the umbrella around for mid-week. Return to index of stories...

THIS MORNING WE GET YOU MORE-ABC7 ALSO DID SOME DIGGING ON THIS GUY.

WE FOUND OUT--

HE'S BEEN IN TROUBLE BEFORE.

ONE EXAMPLE FROM 2005 --

HE PERFORMED A PROCEDURE ON THE WRONG PATIENT.

REPORTS SHOW HE DID AN ENDOSCOPY GASTRO DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE WRONG PATIENT.

THAT'S BASICALLY WHERE THEY SEND A CAMERA THROUGH YOUR G-I SYSTEM TO FIND ANY DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS.

A NURSE HAD CALLED THE WRONG PATIENT IN.

HE DID IT ANYWAY.

AND HAD TO PAY 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS IN FINES --

AND DO COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS. Return to index of stories...

NAPLES 41 LANE-PKG

SEASON IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA MEANS TRAFFIC.

US-41 near downtown Naples is no exception.

2855 as it is during the season it's pretty bad anyhow even during the day it's backed up now

there's an idea brewing to remove 2 of the 6 lanes of traffic on US 41. roughly in this area. from 7th avenue north to 5th avenue south.

2040 the point is to give people an alternative way to move around downtown

There's a Downtown Naples Mobility & Connectivity study that's been in the works to figure out how to better connect the bustling downtown areas of Naples.

Some say to do that. the city needs to make getting around on foot or bike in this area of downtown MORE OF A PRIORITY.

2240 the sidewalk is right next to the street people are going 45, 50 miles an hour and people don't feel safe

2850 I wouldn't be for the idea I think traffic would get terribly backed up around here

3320 it's getting worse and worse every year, and to eliminate one lane I think it's going to be a disaster

Those working on the connectivity study say that shouldn't be a problem.

2210 it won't make them go slower it will make them go 30 miles an hour instead of 45 or 50 which adds to the amount of danger there is when crossing that street Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WX CTR

A funeral motorcade made its way along a Colorado highway carrying the body of a sheriff's deputy killed on New Year's Eve.

Authorities say Douglas County Deputy Zackari Parrish was one of five law enforcement officers shot by 37-year-old Matthew Riehl during the early morning hours of New Year's Eve.

Three other Douglas County deputies were injured, as was a Castle Rock police officer at a Douglas County apartment.

An 18-mile stretch of northbound I-25 was closed between approximately 8:30 a.m. and noon Friday for Parrish's funeral procession.

Members of the police force saluted the motorcade along the route and fire engine companies paid tribute flying huge U.S. flags on the overpasses along the highway.

A motorcade followed the family procession to Cherry Hills Community Church where the ceremony to honor his memory will take place later on Friday.

COLD WEATHER ON HEALTH-OC,VO

IN YOUR HEALTHY LIVING THIS MORNING.

COLD WEATHER CAN BE BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH.

AND EVEN DEADLY-

STAYING WARM DURING THE WINTER MONTHS IS VITAL TO YOUR HEALTH AND YOUR LIFE.

WHEN YOUR BODY IS COLD, BLOOD VESSELS IN ALL DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE BODY CONSTRICT, TO TRY TO PRESERVE HEAT.

AND WHEN THE BODY'S BLOOD VESSELS NARROW, THE RISK OF A HEART ATTACK INCREASES.

WINTRY WEATHER HAS ALSO BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH ASTHMA SYMPTOMS, FROSTBITE AND HYPOTHERMIA.

COLD WEATHER CAN BE BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH.

IT CAN EVEN BE DEADLY.

HERE'S MARY MOLONEY WITH TODAY'S HEALTH MINUTE.

--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS--

STAYING WARM DURING THE WINTER MONTHS IS VITAL TO YOUR HEALTH AND YOUR LIFE.

IN DOING SO, YOUR BODY DOESN'T HAVE TO WORK AS HARD TO KEEP THE MOST IMPORTANT ORGANS, THE HEART, BRAIN AND LUNGS WARM.

COLD WEATHER CAN ACT AS A VASOCONSTRICTOR.

WHICH MEANS WHEN YOUR BODY IS COLD, BLOOD VESSELS IN ALL DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE BODY CONSTRICT, TO TRY TO PRESERVE HEAT.

WINTRY WEATHER HAS ALSO BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH ASTHMA SYMPTOMS, FROSTBITE AND HYPOTHERMIA.

ACCORDING TO A 2015 STUDY PUBLISHED IN THE JOURNAL THE LANCET, GLOBALLY, MORE TEMPERATURE-ATTRIBUTABLE DEATHS TEND TO BE CAUSED BY COLD THAN BY HEAT.

SHOVELING SNOW IS ONE EXAMPLE OF HIGH RISK ACTIVITY THAT CAN BE DEADLY DURING COLD WEATHER.

DON'T OVER DO IT.

TAKE BREAKS AND GET HELP.

ALSO- CHECK ON ELDERLY NEIGHBORS TO MAKE SURE THEY HAVE PROPER HEATING.

KNOCKING ON THEIR DOOR CAN LITERALLY SAVE A LIFE.

MAIN WEATHER-WXWALL

Marathon, Florida - Today

VIDEO PROVIDED BY: HANDOUT

NNS INFORMATION:

Wounded warriors pedaled their way across the Seven Mile Bridge and other parts of the Florida Keys Overseas Highway Friday as part of the weekend's Florida Keys Soldier Ride.

More than 40 injured soldiers and their supporters joined the ride organized by the Wounded Warrior Project to provide inspiration and raise funds for injured veterans recovering in American military hospitals.

Although many riders are missing one or more limbs after combat injuries, the veterans used bicycles fitted with special adaptive equipment.

Many Keys residents waved American flags along the route and driver tooted their horns to thank the soldiers for their service.

The group plans to interact with dolphins at the Keys' Dolphin Research Center Sunday.

The mission of Wounded Warrior Project is to raise public awareness and support for the needs of members of the military who have been severely injured while serving overseas in conflicts. Return to index of stories...
