MALACHI RECLINED HER SEAT, PUT ON SOME SOOTHING MUSIC, HONKED HER HORN TO TRY AND GET SOMEONE'S ATTENTION. AND MADE A PHONE CALL.

Malachi Salbato/Mother:

"I was more just like, 'How am I going to make room in here?'"

DESPITE VAEDA'S SHOCKING ENTRANCE INTO THIS WORLD. MOM AND BABY ARE BOTH HEALTHY AND DOING WELL.

NURSING HOMES-OC-VO

THIS YEAR --

FLORIDA NURSING HOMES ARE ASKING THE LEGISLATURE FOR FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS IN THIS YEARS BUDGET.

THEY WOULD USE THE CASH TO HELP IMPROVE STAFFING, QUALITY OF CARE AND HELP PAY FOR THE INSTALLATION OF GENERATORS, WHICH THEY SAY CAN COST UP TO THREE HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR LARGER FACILITIES.

THE HOMES SUCCESSFULLY CHALLENGED AN EMERGENCY RULE REQUIRING THE GENERATORS AFTER HURRICANE IRMA RELATED DEATHS IN SOUTH FLORIDA.

NOW, MULTIPLE LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS WOULD REQUIRE EACH TO HAVE A GENERATOR.

Now, multiple legislative proposals would require each to have a generator, but nursing homes say they would prefer to work with the Governor on a new rule. Return to index of stories...

FL TREE HOUSE FIGHT-OC-VO

A Florida couple will have to take down their beachfront treehouse after the Supreme Court declined to get involved in a dispute over it.

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to take the case brought by Lynn Tran and Richard Hazen, who live on Anna Maria Island on Florida's west coast.

The couple built a two-story treehouse on their Holmes Beach property in 2011 after being told they didn't need a permit.

But after an anonymous complaint to the city about the structure, officials investigated and found the couple did need to go through the permitting process.

It turns out the treehouse was located in an area where building is prohibited because of a city setback. The couple tried to take the fight to voters but courts stopped them. Return to index of stories...

You'll want the umbrella before you leave the house this morning as we track a few spotty showers through the day. Otherwise it's feeling pretty muggy and warm to start off our Tuesday with temperatures in the low 60s. These muggy conditions could bring a few areas of fog before sunrise.
