JIM DICKEY FIRST WEATHER-WXWALL

Forecast: Cooler stretch of weather starts tonight

Compliments of the movement of two cold fronts over the state of Florida, a stint of cooler than seasonable weather is in store for Southwest Florida starting tonight.

When it comes to overnight low temperatures tonight, numbers are expected to slip into the low and mid 40s for most areas in Lee and Collier Counties west of Interstate 75. Inland areas like Lehigh Acres and Golden Gate will be cooler, dropping closer to 40 degrees by sunrise on Sunday morning.

The coolest regions of South Florida will be in Charlotte, DeSoto, Glades and Hendry Counties. Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte are forecast to drop back to around 40 degrees tonight, with upper 30s in Arcadia, LaBelle, Moore Haven and Immokalee.

Our wind on Sunday will hail from the north, and this will permit a cool and dry air mass to overspread the area through the day. Though normally temperatures in the afternoon hours peak around 74 degrees in mid-January, most of the Southwest corner of Florida will only top out in the middle 60s tomorrow. Lunchtime highs of 65 degrees are expected in Fort Myers and Naples, with 64 degrees expected in Immokalee and LaBelle.

Boaters should use caution on Sunday as the northern wind will be noticeable, especially on the water and toward the beaches. For mariners, a north wind is forecast on Sunday at 10 to 20 knots during the day, yielding 3 to 5 foot Gulf seas and choppy conditions on Gulf bays and inland waters.

As we move further into our forecast, temperatures look mainly sunny on Monday and Tuesday with morning numbers starting both days out in the mid to upper 40s. Daytime highs on Monday and Tuesday will likely range from the upper 60s on Monday with low 70s on the temperature board by Tuesday afternoon. Return to index of stories...
