THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Compared to the warm weather we have seen this past week, expect a chillier day on tap. We will see our high temperature early this morning, that means it'll slowly get cooler through the day. Bring back the warm jacket as we wake up to temperatures in the low to mid 40s tomorrow morning. Expect another mainly dry day as we make it up into the mid 60s. Conditions will continue to be breezy over the next few days, giving a bit of a chill to the air.

Just as temperatures start to slowly warm up, our next cold front moves in midweek bringing us another shot of cooler air. A few showers late Tuesday and Wednesday as the front moves through the area but you'll mainly notice our temperatures go from the low 70s to the low 60s before next weekend. THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR L'ANSE SECOND GRADERS ARE DOING AWAY WITH DESKS IN THEIR CLASSROOMS

Emily Maxson, Teacher: "We thought about what students might need or want in the classroom for, you know, helping with their behaviors and helping with their strategies to help them comprehend things."

STUDENTS STILL HAVE A STORAGE CLIPBOARD TO STORE THEIR BELONGINGS, AND EMILY THINKS IT HELPS STUDENTS WORK AT THEIR OWN PACE.

Emily Maxson, Teacher: "The kids really like it, they're really kind of in tune to what places work well for them too. If a student seems to do much better at a desk, then we have three different table options for them that are just like sitting at a desk, and so we really try to meet the needs of all the students."

WHERE A STUDENT SITS IS DETERMINED BY DAILY BEHAVIOR, AND IS DECIDED AT THE END OF EACH SCHOOL DAY.

Emily Maxson, Teacher: "We have a behavior system with a clip chart, and whoever is highest on the clip chart gets to choose their seat next for the next day. So at the end of the day choose our seats for the next day. we start with who's highest on the clip chart and then we go down down down and then everybody will have a seat and they put their clips on the board that has the name of each seat."

Kale Cichosz, Student: "You have to move your clip to where you're sitting and then that's where you sit for the day."

OTHER L'ANSE CLASSROOMS ARE CONSIDERING GETTING RID OF DESKS, AND THE RESPONSE HAS BEEN POSITIVE.

Emily Maxson, Teacher: "I think every single parent that came into this room was blown away at how much their child enjoyed it and how much they thought it was a really good thing to try out."

LEE COUNTY SCHOOLS MADE A DEAL WITH MR AND MRS HANLON— THEY WOULDN'T CALL THE COPS IF THE COUPLE GIVES BACK THE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS THEY STOLE.

12:04 this only becomes a criminal case if somebody actually reports it 09

ATTORNEY LANCE DUNFORD SAYS WHILE THE SCHOOL DISTRICT DOESNT HAVE TO REPORT THE THEFT—HES SHOCKED THAT THEY HAVENT.

09:34 I've had many teachers who come to us and have been of crimes that are for lack of a better word much more minor than this 42 and they lose their jobs 44

THE HANLONS USED A SQUARE DEVICE TO WIRE OVER TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS INTO A FAMILY BANK ACCOUNT DURING A SCHOOL FUNDRAISER.

04:09 I think because it's the fundraising money that makes it even worse 13

DUNFORD SAYS THEY MIGHT HAVE MADE EXCUSES FOR HOW THEY SPENT THAT TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS—

06:20 if it's kind of a gray area about where these items were being purchased and what purpose they were actually being used for then maybe that's where they haven't met that threshold 28

BUT DOCUMENTS CLEARLY SHOW THE HANLONS WENT ON A NAPLES SHOPPING SPREE JUST AFTER THE FUNDRAISER.

02:42 how are you gonna teach my kids oh yes just steal money just steal something it's okay come on 48

PARENTS SAY THE HANLONS SHOULD BE HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD—BUT DUNFORD SAYS THE LAW ISNT CLEAR.

07:49 is there a legal duty for them to hold that money to a higher standard? I don't know that there's a written on the books legal standard that the school board has 58 Return to index of stories...

TWO PEOPLE WERE CAUGHT ON CAMERA ROBBING AN ARIZONA PET SHOP.

THE THIEVES WERE APPARENTLY AFTER SNAKES.

AND HOW THEY TRIED TO GET TWO VERY PRICEY REPTILES OUT OF THE STORE SURPRISED THE SHOP'S STAFF.

CAMERON POLO REPORTS.

--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS--

Matthew Benedict/Custom Creatures: "It looked like there was collaboration, like they knew what they were doing, and what they wanted, which ones they wanted."

MATTHEW BENEDICT IS TALKING ABOUT THESE TWO.

SURVEILLANCE VIDEO SHOWS A YOUNG MAN AND WOMAN CHECKING OUT THE STORE'S SELECTION OF REPTILES.

BUT WHAT THEY DO NEXT HAD STORE EMPLOYEES AT A LOSS FOR WORDS.

Matthew Benedict/Custom Creatures: "They just jammed their key into the lock and just kept wiggling it until the lock finally broke."

IN THE VIDEO THE GUY REACHES IN AND IMMEDIATELY SHOVES A 500 DOLLAR ALBINO RED TAILED PYTHON IN HIS SHIRT. BUT THE COUPLE WASN'T DONE YET. MOMENTS LATER, THE WOMEN GRABS A 450 DOLLAR BLUE EYED LUCY PYTHON AND PUTS IT IN HER PURSE.

THE VIDEO SHOWS ONE OF THE SNAKES WASN'T TOO THRILLED ABOUT BEING MANHANDLED, SLITHERING OUT OF HIS SHIRT AS THE THIEF STUFFS IT BACK IN.

Matthew Benedict/Custom Creatures: "Jordan confronted them when they were leaving and he just stood their dumb founded."

THE CROOKS PUSHED THEIR WAY OUT THE DOOR. BUT THIS PHOTO SHOWS SHOP OWNER JORDAN MOORE'S WRESTLING ONE OF THE SNAKES AWAY. BEFORE THEIR ESCAPE.

SURVEILLANCE VIDEO POSTED TO THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE WAS SHARED THOUSANDS OF TIMES.

EVENTUALLY SOMEONE CAME FORWARD AND IDENTIFIED THE THIEVES.

AND MOORE GAVE THEM AN ULTIMATUM.

RETURN THE OTHER SNAKE IN 24 HOURS OR HE'D CALL THE POLICE.

Matthew Benedict/Custom Creatures: "Posted on facebook, a lot of people have seen that, they know what you look like, its time to do the right thing now."

--TAG--

THE SECOND SNAKE WAS RETURNED TO THE STORE JUST BEFORE THEY CLOSED THURSDAY NIGHT.

WEATHER-WX CTR

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Compared to the warm weather we have seen this past week, expect a chillier day on tap. We will see our high temperature early this morning, that means it'll slowly get cooler through the day. If you have plans this afternoon, temperatures will be around the mid 60s and breezy. Still a pleasant day with a mainly sunny skies. Much colder air will move into the area late tonight.

THESE DEADLY MUDSLIDES CAME AFTER THE THOMAS FIRE -- THE LARGEST IN STATE HISTORY.

HEAVY RAINS TRIGGERED MUDSLIDES IN SCORCHED AREAS, STRIPPED OF VEGETATION.

THE TORRENTIAL RAINS WERE FELT ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA -- EVEN IN BURBANK WHERE A MUDFLOW PUSHED THIS CAR DOWN A STREET.

THE TWO PEOPLE INSIDE WERE ABLE TO EVENTUALLY GAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR AND ESCAPED WITHOUT INJURY.

BUT SOME CALIFORNIANS FEAR THERE COULD BE MORE STORMS LIKE THIS IN THE FUTURE.

Cecil Kyte/California Resident

"Could it be 3, 4 more? If you look at the hills up here, everything's exposed and I would ask people to prepare themselves for a winter of similar proportions if we continue to get rain like this."

I'M JOHN LORINC REPORTING.

DEVIN TURKS GET US MORE THIS MORNING ON THE POSSIBLE TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE.

A major redevelopment project could result in backed up traffic and a lack of parking in downtown Cape Coral.

The city says South East 47th will be open to the public during construction.

But traffic will be limited on the blocks they're working on.

All regularly scheduled events like the farmers market will still take place.

They are telling people to prepare by taking Cape Coral parkway and side streets to help expedite the process.

While there will be a net parking increase, it will also eliminate street parking, which concerns some local businesses.

The flu has been causing some people to become "sicker than a dog."

But now dogs are getting the flu in such large numbers, a campaign is underway to vaccinate them before canine flu spreads.

News reporter David Louie looks at why this outbreak is worrying pet owners.

Jerry, a bordeaux, just got vaccinated for H3N2 canine influenza. So many cases are being reported by veterinarians that the Humane Society of Silicon Valley is quickly giving shots to about 300 of its shelter dogs and those staying temporarily in foster homes.

The shelter has not had any cases of canine flu and wants it to stay that way. It's barring unvaccinated dogs from entering the facility. It's that contagious.

"They start shedding the virus, and they're contagious before they show any signs of illness. So for a few days before they actually look sick, they can be spreading the disease."

The symptoms can include coughing and sneezing, nasal and eye discharge, decreased appetite and lethargy. In rare cases, it can lead to pneumonia and death.

Dr. Kamiya thinks dog owners might need to reconsider taking their pets to dog parks.

A VIRAL VIDEO HAS SPARKED A DEBATE IN NORTH DAKOTA.

THE CLIP SHOWED A WOMAN UNLOADING GROCERIES IN THE SNOW -- WHILE TWO SMALL CHILDREN WAITED IN THE SHOPPING CART WITHOUT COATS.

ASHLEY HOLCOMBE SPOKE WITH EXPERTS AND FARGO RESIDENTS ABOUT WHAT THE VIDEO SHOWS:

--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS--

Debbie Bartholomay/Fargo, ND Resident: "Kind of sad that maybe she doesn't have the proper gear for her children."

DEBBIE BARTHOLOMAY IS A MOTHER OF THREE AND WAS SHOCKED WHEN SHE SAW THIS DISTURBING VIDEO THAT WENT VIRAL TODAY.

WITH OVER ONE MILLION VIEWS AND OVER 24,000 SHARES, PEOPLE ARE SPEAKING UP AND VOICING HOW THIS VIDEO MAKES THEM FEEL.

Debbie Bartholomay/Fargo, ND Resident: "I was kind of sad to see that."

Angela Upreti/Fargo, ND Resident: "I think it's really irresponsible of the parents."

No Font: "I mean, that looks like really unsafe."

EVERYONE HAS VARYING VIEWS ON HOW THEY SHOULD PARENT THEIR CHILDREN, BUT MANY TRY THEIR BEST TO AVOID PARENT SHAMING.

SO, HOW SHOULD WE REACT IN SITUATIONS WHERE WE THINK EXPERTS NEED TO INTERVENE?

Linda Dorff/Cass County Division Manager of Family Services: "Always call law enforcement. They're trained professionals that know how to handle these situations and they have the authority to handle them, as do we at social services."

DORFF ALSO SAYS THAT BEFORE JUDGING A SITUATION, IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT YOU MAY NOT BE SEEING THE WHOLE PICTURE.

Linda Dorff/Cass County Division Manager of Family Services: "Parents want to do the best that they can. Sometimes they don't have the resources."

DORFF WANTS TO SHED LIGHT ON THE STIGMA SURROUNDING SOCIAL SERVICES.

THEY'RE NOT TRYING TO TAKE KIDS AWAY FROM THEIR PARENTS.

THEY JUST WANT TO HELP AND DO WHAT IS BEST FOR THE CHILDREN.

Linda Dorff/Cass County Division Manager of Family Services: "Our goal is to make sure that parents have the knowledge and resources in order to parent their children safely and appropriately."

THEY'RE PUTTING IN EFFORT TO MAKE SURE SITUATIONS LIKE THIS DON'T HAPPEN.
